Gioncavallo can finally settle down. Lord Cassio has given him a place in his castle as a blacksmith, Viviana is staying with him, his mother, and only living family, the mother-witch Chiara is close by, and there seem to be no demons around. Even Emanuele, the lordling that had made his life’s mission to destroy Gioncavallo finally met his due.
So, of course, trouble comes knocking. This time, in the form of a letter.
Sir Pasquale Coppo, the crazy inventor, needs Gioncavallo’s help. It’s not yet completely safe for him to go out of Lord Cassio’s domain, as the church is still angry at him for being involved in the previous pope’s death, and for being the hero of the people—but Gioncavallo wants to help his friend. This pope, though, is too crafty by half, much more than the previous one.
They say, there’s only one way out of the pope’s prisons: death. How will Gioncavallo manage to get out without dying—again?
